Tips for Stress-Free Camping with Kids ⛺
I love camping… but I also love sleeping… and sometimes those two things are not aligned 😅
Over the years, I’ve figured out how to make camping actually fun (even with kids), and not just a “why did we do this again?” situation. I have found that the number one thing people complain about is sleep, so we go all out with a great air mattress for the adults (the kids sleep on the pads linked below and love those), we bring our favorite pillows, get comfy sleeping bags, and have extra layers in case we get chilly.
Here are more ideas for a great camping trip:
Camping Tips
If you’re new to camping or just want it to feel easier, here are a few things that make a big difference:
- Pick an easy campground first
Get a site near the bathroom and the playground! Look for campsites with lots of activities, like a creek to play in, trails, and/or a swim beach. This makes it feel more like a vacation.
- Pack for comfort, not survival
You don’t need to “rough it” to enjoy camping. You’re not getting a reward for how hardcore you are. Bring cozy blankets, good food, and a comfortable place to sleep so you can have a much better trip.
- Plan one simple activity
A short hike, fishing, or even just s’mores by the fire can be enough. You don’t need a packed schedule. Here are 25 ideas + a free downloadable bingo board: Spring Outdoor Ideas for Families

Camping Gear I Actually Use + Love
If you’re gearing up, these are a few things I always recommend:
|
|
🔦 All-in-one flashlight + lantern + fire starter
This one is honestly so cool. It’s rechargeable, doubles as a lantern, and even has a magnifying glass to help start a fire. Also makes a really great gift idea for dads, who are notoriously difficult to shop for.

|
Packable Camping Blanket
We use this for everything: around the fire, as a picnic blanket, and for extra warmth at night… it packs down small but makes a big difference.
|
|
|
Lightweight Sleeping Pad
If you hate sleeping on the ground (same), this is a game changer. This is super compact and way more comfortable than you’d expect.
