It's not too late to plan a Midwest summer road trip!

Hi Friends!

My kids only have one more week of school before they are out for the summer. This is the perfect time to start planning for those fun summer trips. Our family is traveling to locations in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado!

If you need ideas for Midwest summer trips, I've got you covered. I hope that it will give you some inspiration for your next epic adventure! Go book something amazing!

My Top Midwest Summer Trips

Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

If you’re looking for an underrated national park, Voyageurs National Park is it! This park is near International Falls, Minnesota and on the border with Canada. The entire park is on water, encompassed by miles and miles of beautiful lakes. All of the Voyageur’s campsites are only accessible by boat. We chartered a speedboat to take us to our campsite with all our stuff + a canoe. My twins were 3 and my son was 11-months old and this is still one of the biggest adventures and best trips we have been on. I have more information about this on my blog.

Medora, North Dakota

Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We went here last year and I literally shed tears of joy over how beautiful and vast it was. We saw bison, prairie dogs, and wild horses. We even walked a trail that burned for over 20 years. Learn more here!

Rapid City, South Dakota

Rapid City offers a variety of fun things to do that cater to families with children of all ages, but it is also a great home base to many of South Dakota's most famous attractions because it is only an hour away from Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and the Badlands National Park. We enjoyed exploring downtown, playing at the indoor water park, going to Bear Country USA and more. Check out my Rapid City, SD blog for more details!

Bentonville, Arkansas

Trust me when I say, Bentonville, Arkansas is one of the coolest up-and-coming cities in the USA. We enjoyed biking to a coffee shop only accessible by a trail, playing at the Amazeum, eating some of the best food we have ever had, exploring the downtown and taking in world-class art at Crystal Bridges. I have an entire weekend itinerary for Bentonville HERE and all my favorite gluten free options in Bentonville HERE.

Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha is famous for having one of the best (if not the best) zoos in the country, but did you know it also has some of the top-ranked playgrounds in the US, an amazing children's museum, and epic gardens, including a new children's play area that my kids refused to leave. Check out more suggestions, plus other road trips close to Kansas City, HERE.

How to find nearby ideas without hours of research

I asked 5,000 people what their biggest problems were that held them back from exploring more. One of the biggest issues was overwhelm and indecision.

They said they wanted to find more cool places in their home state or fun stops on road trips, but they could never keep track of what was where and what was on the way.

That’s why I created my Kansas and Missouri maps. I wanted to make it easy for you to find places, sort by the activities you love, and search by destination.

Hey Friends, I think Missouri might secretly be one of the best states for weird family road trips. So if you are looking for fun and unique summer road trip ideas, here are some Missouri spots worth adding to your list. Ha Ha Tonka State Park Weird & Fun Places to...

a girl feeding a giraffe in Springfield, MO, a great weekend trip from Kansas City

Hey Friends, I think weekend trips are kind of magical. You get all the fun of a getaway without the big price tag, the complicated planning, or using any PTO. We take 1-2 weekend trips a month, because little trips keep my heart happy. (Let's be honest, all trips make my heart happy, I can just afford more little trips than big ones.) Kansas City is surrounded by destinations that can deliver a surprisingly memorable getaway in just two or three days. If you are looking for a quick getaway,...
