All the Fall Family Fun, Discounted Tickets + How to Dress for Fall 🎃

Pumpkin Patches + Fall Fun for Families

Let me tell you a sad story, with a happy ending. Once upon a time, there was a girl who dreamed of doing all the fun fall things she saw in movies, but instead she grew up in the hot land of Texas. Pumpkin patches were just pumpkins on hay bales in grocery store parking lots. The leaves didn’t really change and October never got cool and crisp, it just got less hot.

Then when the girl grew up, she moved to the Midwest. She went to a real pumpkin patch and saw beautiful fall foliage for the first time. Ever since then, she has been in love with all things fall.

Ok, so you may have guessed that girl is me. You’re right. Pumpkin patches are basically a fall rite of passage in our house. Every fall I am inexplicably giddy, and I cram more fun into a month than most do in a season. So, if you’re looking for fall fun, I have your back!

How to Dress for Fall

Our family has tried out a lot of gear over the years, and these are our favorites:

ThermKids

As temperatures cool down, it’s important to dress for the weather. I recommend getting a windproof, waterproof shell that will keep you warm and dry.

This is the fourth year I am getting my kids ThermKids. I love this brand because it is affordable and good quality. The items last and are all still in great shape when we hand them down.

We have used their lightweight shells and mid-weight fleece lined jackets in the fall. Both are great, but if you only want to get one, I recommend getting the shell and lining it with a fleece or jacket you already have.

Personally, I like having both and use the midweight one as our only jacket on trips to cooler destinations. It really just depends on your needs! My kids love the splash magic jackets. When they get wet cool pictures appear on their coats.

Use code OUTDOORFAM for 10% off! Their products aren’t cheap, but they are more affordable than other outdoor brands like Patagonia or Cotopaxi and they last forever. Click HERE to order.

Lined Rain Jacket

I have this Lined Rain Jacket from Columbia, as well as a Packable Shell Rain Jacket that I have used for 11 years, and it still looks new. Or if you’re looking for the men’s versions, you can find them here: Men’s Lined Rain Jacket and Men’s Packable Shell Rain Jacket.

I Want to Hear from You!

What’s your favorite fall tradition? Pumpkin patches, leaf-peeping, or apple cider donuts? I am always looking for recommendations for places and activities to include in my content. I appreciate any tips or opinions!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for being here and supporting me! It means so much to me that you’re here. I hope that I can provide value for you and your family, so you’re inspired to get out and explore more! Happy adventuring!

Thank You for Supporting My Small Business! Happy Small Business Saturday! Every time you open an email, read a blog, share a reel, or buy one of my products, you support my small business in such a real way. It means more to me and my family than you know. I wanted to give you another way you could support my small business and a way that I could thank you! I asked 5,000 people what their biggest problems were that held them back from exploring more. One of the biggest issues was overwhelm...

I was planning to send a Black Friday email today, but I had a revelation this week and I wanted to share it with you instead. You know those moments when something hits you out of nowhere and makes you stop and smile? I had one of those this week. I was thinking about this community and how much it has grown. When I first started sharing our adventures, I wasn’t sure anyone in KC even wanted to get outside as much as I did. I definitely didn’t expect to find so many people who love exploring...

A girl sitting in the snow smiling because she dressed well for winter

Stay Warm This Winter A few years ago I read the book, No Such Thing as Bad Weather and it changed the way I thought about winter. Before that, I really struggled to get outside in the winter, but I had also never invested in good clothes to keep me warm or learned how to layer properly. Once I got myself decent weather clothes, it made winter so much more tolerable, I daresay, enjoyable even! I still usually hit my winter weather limit around mid-February, but being able to get outdoors...
